Dr Nicholas Chew Wuen Ming, Pro­gram Direc­tor, TTSH

Dr Nicholas Chew Wuen Mingis a con­sul­tant psy­chi­a­trist and deputy head of the depart­ment of psy­cho­log­i­cal med­i­cine ttsh. He received post grad­u­ate train­ing in con­sul­ta­tion liai­son psy­chi­a­try and psy­chother­apy at Mon­treal Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal, McGill uni­ver­sity health cen­ter. He cur­rently runs a HIV psy­chi­a­try ser­vice at the com­mu­ni­ca­ble dis­ease cen­tre and a post-stroke depres­sion ser­vice in TTSH-rehab at Ang Mo Kio — Thye Hwa Kwan hos­pi­tal. He has a keen inter­est in teach­ing, was nom­i­nated for the TTSH top 10 teach­ers award in 2007 and 2008, as well as the NUS dean’s teach­ing award 2007. He is cur­rently a risk man­age­ment trainer with the Med­ical Pro­tec­tion Soci­ety and the Cog­ni­tive Institute.

Dr Lawrence Tan is a Con­sul­tant with the Depart­ment of Geri­atric Med­i­cine, Alexan­dra Hos­pi­tal. He has a keen inter­est in teach­ing and is a Clin­i­cal Teacher with the Yong Loo Lin School of Med­i­cine, National Uni­ver­sity of Sin­ga­pore. He is also involved in Clin­i­cal Ethics and is a mem­ber of Alexan­dra Hospital’s Ethics Com­mit­tee as well as the Sin­ga­pore Med­ical Asso­ci­a­tion Ethics Committee.

Dr Daniel Wong, Radiology Program Director, TTSH

Dr Daniel Wong, Radi­ol­ogy Pro­gram Direc­tor, TTSH

Dr Daniel Wong grad­u­ated from NUS in 1985. He has been work­ing in TTSH since 1988 ini­tially as a radi­ol­ogy trainee and as a staff radi­ol­o­gist since 1992.
He started his sub-specialty train­ing in vas­cu­lar and inter­ven­tional radi­ol­ogy at the Royal Mel­bourne Hos­pi­tal and Flinders Hos­pi­tal, Ade­laide in 1995. He has been Head of Vas­cu­lar and Inter­ven­tional Radi­ol­ogy since 1997. He was appointed Head of Train­ing for the depart­ment since 2000, look­ing after the under­grad­u­ate, BST and AST pro­grams. He also takes care of sev­eral for­eign fel­low­ship pro­grams for the depart­ment. Dr Daniel is mar­ried with three chil­dren aged 20, 18 and 5. In his spare time, he is a keen golfer and movie buff.

Dr Roy Kan, Anaesthesiology Program Director, TTSH

Dr Roy Kan, Anaes­the­si­ol­ogy Pro­gram Direc­tor, TTSH

Dr Roy Kan is cur­rently a con­sul­tant in the Depart­ment of Anaes­the­si­ol­ogy, TTSH. He is the pro­gram direc­tor for the the Anaes­the­si­ol­ogy res­i­dency pro­gram. Dr Kan grad­u­ated from the National Uni­ver­sity of Sin­ga­pore in 1998 and obtained his Mas­ters of Med­i­cine (Anaes­the­si­ol­ogy) in 2005. He com­pleted a fel­low­ship in cardio-thoracic-vascular anaes­the­sia and trans-esophageal echocar­dio­g­ra­phy at the Johns Hop­kins Hos­pi­tal, USA in 2008. Dr Kan is actively involved in under­grad­u­ate and post­grad­u­ate teach­ing and is a mem­ber of the Train­ing and Edu­ca­tion sub-committee of the Anaes­the­sia Spe­cialty Train­ing Com­mit­tee. In his spare time, he enjoys spend­ing time with his two young sons.

Dr S.S. Sathappan, Orthopaedic Surgery Program Director, TTSH

Dr S.S. Sathap­pan, Orthopaedic Surgery Pro­gram Direc­tor, TTSH

Dr S.S. Sathap­pan grad­u­ated from Uni­ver­sity of Bris­tol, United King­dom in 1995. He obtained his FRCSEd in 1999. There­after, he com­pleted his advanced sur­gi­cal train­ing in Orthopaedics in 2003 and obtained his FRCSEd (Ortho & Trauma). He sub­se­quently com­pleted a one-year spe­cial­ity fel­low­ship in Adult Recon­struc­tive surgery in the Hos­pi­tal for Joint Dis­eases in New York, USA. He has won numer­ous awards both dur­ing his train­ing years and as a con­sul­tant: Nathan Bur­ton Elec­tive Award (1994); Suple best stu­dent in med­i­cine award (1995); Hip & Knee Arthri­tis and Recon­struc­tion Schol­ar­ship (Hip & Knee Soci­ety, USA, 2005); Young Orthopaedic Inves­ti­ga­tor award (2007); Yayha Cohen Sur­gi­cal award (2008) NHG Qual­ity Pil­lar Award (2007/08); Best Clin­i­cal Prac­tice Improve­ment Pro­gram award (2007); NUS teach­ing excel­lence award (2007/08).Currently he is a Con­sul­tant in the depart­ment of Orthopaedics with a spe­cial inter­est in adult recon­struc­tive surgery, sports surgery & man­age­ment of com­plex pelvic and acetab­u­lar trauma. He per­forms pri­mary, revi­sion and computer-assisted knee and hip joint replace­ment surgery. He also gets numer­ous refer­rals for revi­sion hip and knee arthro­plasty. He also per­forms bio­log­i­cal pro­ce­dures for the hip such as live-fibula graft surgery in avas­cu­lar necro­sis (AVN) of the hip, as well as hip resur­fac­ing pro­ce­dures. With regards to total knee replace­ment surgery he has a spe­cial inter­est in opti­miz­ing high-flexion in patients and is eval­u­at­ing var­i­ous design options through inter­na­tional multi-centre clin­i­cal research groups He has a spe­cial inter­est in sports surgery and per­forms arthro­scopic (“key-hole”) menis­cal repairs and lig­a­ment recon­struc­tion procedures.

Dr Sathap­pan has also taken on sev­eral other respon­si­bil­i­ties and these include: Clin­i­cal tutor in NUS; Spe­cial­ity Board Mem­ber for the Chap­ter of Orthopaedic Sur­geons (Sin­ga­pore); Clin­i­cal Research Co-ordinator; ATLS Course Instruc­tor; and BCLS Course Instruc­tor. He has numer­ous pub­li­ca­tions in peer reviewed jour­nals and has also writ­ten book chap­ters in sev­eral orthopaedic text­books. Annu­ally, he is involved in numer­ous inter­na­tional hip and knee orthopaedic meet­ings and is an invited fac­ulty and often lec­tures in var­i­ous sub­spe­cialty topics.
